Severity of Anxiety due to the COVID-19 Pandemic among the Students of Africa International University, Karen

This study investigated the severity of anxiety due to COVID-19 pandemic among students studying at Africa International University, Karen, Nairobi County, Kenya. The was done within a period three months. guided by Ecological Systems theory and Social Cognitive Theory. employed descriptive survey research design. Participant’s answers were compared certain variables including prevalence preventive hygiene measures, depression, avoidance behavior. A working sample size 123 picked from target population 1134 University. Stratified Random Sampling used get students. structured questionnaire with an internal consistence reliability α=0.858 collect data respondents. In addition this, researcher Becks Depression Inventory-II Beck’s Anxiety Inventory find out depression respectively. information obtained analyzed using SPSS version 23 presented both inferential statistics. found that had significant impact on psychological well-being college More than 60% incorporated behavior changes adhered government directives measures (p=0.000). It also suffered 20.10 ± 0.975SD. 28.9% 23.7% moderate severe student 15.85 0.491SD, p=0.000. quarter concerning high levels anxiety. Avoidance prevalent 12.09 3.909SD. alarming 50% thought quitting or deferring their studies ((r = 0.230, p-value 0.014). recommends introduction psychoeducation programs educate how cope pandemics other might occur, initiation accessible affordable counselling services for students, training developing resilience, concerted effort between colleges should put mitigate spread fake news social media people where obtain reliable information.
